Hello! We are Marc and Juan, from the University of Franche-Comté (France) and University of Cordova (Spain) respectively. We have been here from the beginning of July, and we are collaborating with people who work in the Research Group.
Marc studied English, and is now studying Natural Language Processing. He is currently working on a pattern dictionary of English verbs with Dr. Sara Moze, and carrying out some annotation tasks related to cyberbullying detection for Dr. Vinita Nahar. Marc is an Erasmus student, who will soon start the second year of his Masters degree in Natural Language Processing at the University of Wolverhampton, and his work placement is part of his studies: “Living in the UK has allowed me to improve my English and is one of the best experiences that I have had in my life. I plan to stay and to do a PhD in the UK or in another English-speaking country.”
Juan studied Computer Science and is developing an application to help Dr. Vinita Nahar in her research on cyberbullying, and he is also annotating for her as well. In addition, he is helping Hanna Bechara in developing a query application. Juan is also an Erasmus student who has just finished his degree and has come here looking for work experience: “I think it’s a good opportunity to improve myself professionally. I am learning very much from this group, which is full of competent people, and I know it’s going to be really useful in the future.”
We both agree that it has been a rich experience. We have found out what it is like to live in a new country, and have had the opportunity to travel around the UK, which has allowed us to learn more about this amazing culture.
We have both met many interesting people who live here and who have shown us more about what life is like here, such as how to find a job.
Unfortunately, we are leaving the Research Group in September. We already know that everybody is going to feel very sad about it, which is why we want to tell you that we will not forget the time that we have spent here.
We also want to thank you for letting us be part of this wonderful team.
Juan and Marc
