By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- demonstrate comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of specific topics within the areas of corpus linguistics, lexicology, and language processing;
- critically review, analyse, and evaluate corpus evidence, techniques, and language resources for the purposes of language teaching, lexicography and/or translation;
- demonstrate self-direction and originality in formulating research questions and hypotheses, and in selecting and applying appropriate corpus linguistic methods to successfully address them;
- develop advanced, high-level practical skills in the use of corpus tools and other relevant state-of-the-art tools for language professionals (e.g. dictionary writing software, computer-assisted translation tools etc.);
- communicate research findings orally and in writing to both academic and general audiences, and prepare texts for publication;
- demonstrate the qualities and transferrable skills necessary for employment, such as:
- professionalism and the exercise of personal responsibility;
- excellent planning and time management skills;
- decision-making in complex and unpredictable situations and the ability to take initiative;
- good interpersonal skills and team work;
- ability to handle constructive criticism and avoid conflict.
